Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to find a place and use GaffSwipe, including people who use a screen reader, larger text, a keyboard or switch controls.

What this covers

The GaffSwipe app for iPhone, this website (gaffswipe.co.uk) and the landlord dashboard (landlords.gaffswipe.co.uk).

The standard we aim for

We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, the benchmark used to judge accessibility under the Equality Act 2010.

What you can expect

  • Screen readers. Buttons, photos and form fields are labelled for VoiceOver on iPhone and for screen readers on the web.
  • Swiping is optional. Every swipe has a button that does the same thing.
  • Text size. The app follows your phone's text size, and the websites work when zoomed to 200%.
  • Contrast. Text and controls meet AA contrast in light and dark mode. We check this automatically.
  • Motion. If you turn on Reduce Motion, the app and websites cut their animations.
  • Rotation. The app works in portrait and landscape.
  • Keyboard. The websites work with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and a “Skip to content” link.

Known issues

  • Some legal pages are long and still in draft. If you need any of them in another format, ask us.
  • Listing photos are labelled by number (“Photo 2 of 8”), not described. Landlords upload them and we don't yet ask for descriptions. The listing's written details give the same information.

Tell us about a problem

If something in GaffSwipe is hard or impossible to use, or you need information in a different format, email support@gaffswipe.co.uk with the subject “Accessibility”. Tell us what you were trying to do and what device or browser you use. A person reads every message, and we'll reply to say what we'll do about it.

If you're not happy with our response, the Equality Advisory and Support Service can give you free advice.

How we checked

This statement was prepared on 12 October 2026. Our web pages were tested with the axe accessibility checker against WCAG 2.2 AA, and the app's screens were reviewed for labels, text scaling, contrast and alternatives to gestures. We'll review it as the app changes.
